About Me

I’m an award-winning journalist, strategist and increasingly impatient Canadian who knows that to be good, sometimes you gotta get wicked.

A Little Wicked Thinking

Subscribe to my weekly newsletter on Substack. I write about news and cultural analysis through the lens of what we really value: the ideas and beliefs that push us apart and the ones that pull us back together.

I write about big ideas such as economic inequity, concerns about AI and climate change, alongside commentary on films and streaming, Broadway musicals, comic book superheroes, Indiana Jones, Rodents of Unusual Size, murder mysteries and princesses of the Disney and pop varieties.

Why? Because pop culture can go where straight-up public affairs writing, statistics and science, can’t – by revealing truths in fun and emotionally resonating ways that get to the heart of what we value.

My Bio

I’ve spent my career listening and talking with people as a journalist and strategic advisor. I love talking with humans because it is in those conversations that change begins to take shape.

It’s why I created Wicked Ideas, a consultancy that supports mission-driven leaders and teams to build broad consensus across diverse stakeholder groups around complex, contentious and controversial issues.

I’ve developed a model for change that speeds our transition to a more just and sustainable world via clear step-by-step actions that adapt to your organization’s current capacity and can scale as you go.

My model builds my foundational work as co-founder of Next NB/Avenir NB, one of Canada’s first citizen-centred public policy initiatives, which was a special project initiated by Dr. John McLaughlin during his tenure as president of the University of New Brunswick.

My writing has appeared in the Globe and Mail, the National Post, Time, the Halifax Herald, and the New Brunswick Telegraph Journal. I am a frequent guest on national radio and television; am the author of New Brunswick Underwater, about the impact of climate change on the St. John River; and I’m a leader in the North American BCorp movement, for-profit companies that meet the highest standards for social and environmental impact. I am currently a weekly commentator with CBC Radio’s Information Morning in Saint John.

Years at Intersection of shifting values and massive economic, technological, social and environmental change

My Values at Work

I am on a mission to speed our transition to a more just and sustainable world, as defined by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and I enbed those values in my work as a certifed B Corporation.

Global Goals, Local Action

The UN SDGs are the world’s to-do list for addressing complex, wicked problems. I use the SDGs to anchor my work with clients and to help guide clients to identify the values they need to put to work creating sustainable change.

Business as a Force for Good
